Caffine is a Drug Too
I was so out of it I thought this was aesthetic yesterday:
yeah, we're that cooked.
What could have possibly happened.
Since the vocal nodules diagnosis (which I'll update on shortly), I've been keeping away from caffeine intentionally, as it can be a barrier to healing.
but like many cold turkey attempts tend to go, I finally caved about two weeks later this Easter Sunday. We were getting lunch, and I'm like fuck it, americano. can't be that bad.
To be fair to myself, it wasn't! I did okay, until the waiter came back to refill our mugs with coffee. I WAS WEAK!!! I CAVED!!! Probably had about 3 cups of coffee there.
It gets better.
Walking back from Trinity Church (which is gorgeous, by the way, it was awesome getting to pass by the graves of Alexander Hamilton, Eliza, Phillip, and Hercules Mulligan), we passed by yet another coffee place we're friendly with, and they offered us all each something to drink. That's at least an espresso more (I don't know the exact composition of what I drank save for the fact that it was coffee/coffee byproduct).
Then we hit the Home Depot.
And there, I felt like I was being driven by like a MOTOR dude. I paced around this store like it was nobody's business. 4 CUPS of coffee while you're not used to that level of intake is a hell of a drug, in the most literal sense. I suppose I forgot that it could in fact do that. I texted friends, wrote a song in like 5 minutes (not unusual of me, but it's been a minute for sure), and waited for my heart and head to stop going a mile a minute.
man the comedown was hard.
It forgot how hard it could hit, it reminded me of the days I'd drink a metric f**kton of Celcius in college. Bad idea, don't do that. But in any case, I read, took a long walk, talked to a few people I appreciate, and called it a night.
moral of the story: don't drink a ton of coffee after not doing that. it is not pleasurable.
have i learned from this? tbd, i will hopefully probably not do that again lol
Last thing!
it wouldn't be a Luca blog post if I didn't mention something I'm working on :) if you like Letterboxd and Goodreads, you'll like Wax! I'm just starting out on the details, but register early and build your shelf! If you're a music lover like me, it's a no brainer.
plus, there's totally a leaderboard for most albums rated and a 'FIRST 100' badge you get for joining early, so...
do pardon my dust as I fix early bugs, and get the thing working! It will have a mobile app soon too, so you don't have to use this pesky web link anymore. Stay tuned as this continues to (literally) develop.
